Clevedon Pier

Clevedon Pier: 28 August @ 19:00:03
Clevedon Pier: 28 August @ 20:25:50

I was fortunate enough to have two staycations this summer. While I missed travelling (and seeing friends) overseas, I was able to visit parts of England I have not seen before. One such was Clevedon in Somerset. Staying nearby, in Portishead (itself a revelation), one evening I went to catch the sunset facing west from Clevedon Beach, looking over to Wales. The pier, opened in 1869 and described by Sir John Betjeman as ‘the most beautiful pier in England’ was the perfect vantage point.

September Sunset

As the days shorten, I can now catch the sunset on my early evening dog walk. A quiet time on a weekday along the river path to Alresford Creek, with only bird song and brief greetings from photographers to punctuate the peace.

Soft Focus

Taken on my sunset walk along the River Colne tonight, in the freezing fog, looking across to Rowhedge and their Christmas decorations. Every season, and each change of the weather, has its own beauty. The fog muffles sound and alters light, bringing quiet and calm, slowing life down.
